The Langford Centre is situated in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex and has excellent transport links to central London and other areas in the South East of England. It is situated within 10 minutes walk of the Town Centre, Train Station, local Leisure Centre and other amenities. There are also regular buses which makes travelling very easy.

The Langford Centre provides a comprehensive range of treatments tailored to individual needs, for patients in both Low secure, Locked rehabilitation and Residential environments.

The care pathway at the Langford Centre is designed to enable patients to move along the pathway, as determined by individual needs. Patients can move from Low Security and Complex needs services our Locked Rehabilitation services whilst being supported by the same multi-disciplinary team. Community-based housing in close proximity to the Langford Centre provides the last step in patients' care pathway, before independent or semi-independent living in the community.


The centre is composed of six wards;

  • Balmoral: Women's Mental Health/Personality Disorder step down locked rehabilitation
  • Cooden Lodge: Male - Locked rehabilitation service for men with complex and enduring mental health conditions 
  • Daffodil Ward: Women’s Challenging Behaviour and Complex Needs Service
  • Pevensey Ward: Male - Low Secure Service 
  • Seaford: Male - Locked rehabilitation service for men with complex and enduring mental health conditions. 

Admission criteria 

The referrals to the service come from a variety of sources including, Medium Secure Units, the Criminal Justice System, Community placements and transfers from other Low Secure services. Our admission criteria is as follows: 

  • Males and females aged 18 and over
  • For our Rehabilitation services, both informal clients and clients detained under the Mental Health Act
  • For Secure Services all clients should be detained under the Mental Health Act

Clients may also suffer from various Mental Health Disorders including:

  • Dual Diagnosis
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Neurocognitive Disorders
  • Complex and Challenging behaviours
  • Personality disorders
  • May be subject to Ministry of Justice Restrictions
  • Sexual Offending
  • Drug and Alcohol misuse

At the Langford Centre there is a diverse and stable Multi Disciplinary team, comprising: 

  • Consultant Psychiatrist and Responsible Clinician
  • Speciality Doctor
  • Consultant Forensic Psychologist
  • Psychology Assistants
  • Senior Occupational Therapist
  • Assistant Occupational Therapist
  • Social Worker
  • Registered Nurses
  • Therapeutic Care Workers
