The Nightingales is a new purpose built service offered at Croham Place located in Croydon, Greater London. Croham Place is a specialist Mental Health, Acquired Brain Injury and Neurocognitive residential care home with nursing which supports up to thirty five Service Users over three separate units, The Manor, The Beeches and The Nightingales. We focus on improving Service User’s quality of life through promoting independence and empowerment, while supporting our Service Users to reach their maximum rehabilitation potential.

The Nightingales is 9 bedded unit that supports men of a working age who have an Acquired Brain Injury or who may have sustained a brain injury which affects their behaviour, ability to process information and ability to function independently. Residents may also present with a premorbid Mental Health diagnosis such as Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder and Personality Disorder.

The Nightingales

Service Users may transition from Mental Health inpatient services, failed community placements, care homes, neurorehabilitation services or secure services that can no longer meet their needs. The Nightingales offers a safe and robust setting for up to nine gentleman who either require or would benefit from a male only service. We have a specialist and dedicated team that compromises of Registered General and Mental Health Nurses, including a Registered Manager, Unit Manager, Operations Supervisor and qualified Care Staff to support our Service Users 24 hours a day. Physiotherapy assessments are also available to Services Users should they require it.

Our unique person centred approach encourages engagement with families and carers to create a responsive and Service User led environment. The Nightingales has a contemporary environment that provides spacious modern amenities, specially adapted open communal spaces and direct access to secure landscaped external gardens and grounds. We encourage our Service Users to personalise their bedrooms with all rooms offering en-suite bathrooms including access to large shared assisted bathrooms and wet rooms.

The Nightingales can cater to the needs of individuals subject to Ministry of Justice (MoJ) restrictions, Community Treatment Orders (CTO’s) – including individuals applicable to Deprivation of Liberties Safeguarding (DoLS) and on Licence as directed by the Parole Board. We aim to reduce the use of medication through the design of our environment and the use of evidence-based non- pharmacological interventions.

We also support Service Users with pain management and we are able to provide palliative end of life care, where required. We track a variety of outcomes in domains such as meaningful activity, physical health, quality of life and risk. We work collaboratively with Mental Health Services, Social Services, Primary Care and Specialist Services to ensure high standards of care to all Service Users.
